Whenever I’m at a crossroads, I turn to an imagined conversation with my future self, asking, “What action would my 85-year-old self be most proud of?” This reflective question pushed me to make a tough but life-changing choice: to leave behind a lucrative corporate career that no longer aligned with my values, to create Shatter, and to invest my energy in empowering women to gain financial independence and freedom through modern, high-vibe sales strategies.

This soul-searching revealed a profound truth to me: the world is in dire need of empowered women, especially in a capitalist society where financial wealth translates directly into power. My future self was clear; the sales expertise I’ve nurtured over nearly three decades was meant for a greater purpose—to significantly increase the economic strength and independence of women.

Last week, as the nation’s voice echoed through the election results, my heart felt weighed down. Not out of surprise, but because it underscored a truth I’ve recognized since my earliest days—that we live in a society still deeply entrenched in misogyny. (or still deeply uncomfortable with powerful women) 

I share this recognition not to provoke but to acknowledge a harsh truth:

It took women nearly 150 years post the founding of our country to win the right to vote. As late as 1971—just 5 years before I was born—women were still fighting for basic rights and freedoms, such as access to an Ivy League education and the right to birth control.

In moments of hardship or disappointment, especially those that feel out of our control, it can help to pause and look at the bigger picture. Ask yourself: “What action would my 85-year-old self be most proud of me taking right now?” This perspective can bring clarity and guide you toward decisions that align with your deeper purpose. For instance, continuing to champion causes like empowering women to achieve financial independence not only honors our values but also creates lasting impact.
